MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive women’s lacrosse team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, powering past Conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan with a commanding 21-5 victory at home.
The Trojans set the tone early, scoring six goals in each of the first three quarters while controlling possession throughout the contest. Mount Olive outshot Southern Wesleyan 42–13 and limited the Warriors to just five shots on goal all afternoon.
Dominance extended across all phases of the game, as the Trojans won the ground ball battle 19–6, controlled the draw circle by a 21–7 margin, and successfully cleared the ball on eight of nine attempts.
Maddy Fratus led Mount Olive’s offensive charge with a game-high seven points, recording four goals and three assists. Katie Broom followed closely with six points on four goals and two assists, while also leading the team in shots. Alexa Fitzgerald added three goals, and Ava Mullen, Hailey Morgan, and Morghan Pollock each found the net twice.
The Trojans showcased impressive depth on offense, with 10 different players recording goals in the season-opening win.
In goal, Mount Olive’s defense and goalkeeping unit combined for five saves while limiting Southern Wesleyan’s scoring opportunities, keeping the Warriors off balance from start to finish.
From the opening draw to the final whistle, Mount Olive dictated the pace and delivered a statement performance to begin the season 1–0.
The Trojans return to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 14, when they host Anderson. First draw is set for noon.
