January 16, 2026, 86, Goldsboro – Willie “Sandy” Shelton Draughon was born in Wayne County on August 14, 1939, to Oscar and Mollie Cotton Draughon. He passed away peacefully in his home on January 16, 2026.
Willie enjoyed farming, tending his garden, and canning the bounty it produced. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he found great joy in serving and fellowshipping with others.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maureen Bernadette Draughon; his son, Willie Shelton Draughon Jr. (Beverly); his daughters, Aletha Darlene Bradley (Robert) and Heather Lynn Hacker (Alfred); bonus children, Deborah Griffin (Kerry) and Robert Dugan Jr. (Cat); 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his siblings, Brewer, Elizabeth, Ruth, Oscar “Teant,” Vernetta, and Geraldine; his bonus daughter, Kelley Hirsch, and her husband, Thomas Hirsch; and two grandsons, Kenneth Bauer and Sean Thomas Hirsch.
