January 9, 2026, 78, Goldsboro – Barbara Jean Pelt Bailey, 78, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, surrounded by the love of her family.
Barbara was born in Wayne County on June 27, 1947, to the late Murray Lee Pelt and Melva Jean Neal Pelt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Jesse Franklin Bailey; her brother, Charlie R. Pelt; and her cherished fur babies, Pepe and Scooter, who brought her much joy and companionship.
A devoted homemaker, Barbara took great pride in her home and found true happiness in caring for those she loved. Her devotion to her husband was the heart of her life, and she poured herself into being a loving and faithful wife, always placing his needs and happiness before her own.
Barbara was a member of Goldsboro Friends Meeting, where she once shared her voice as a choir member. Worshiping alongside her family brought her comfort and joy, and her faith remained an important part of her life.
She had a fond love for shopping and was a familiar face to QVC, always on the lookout for something special. Above all, Barbara treasured time spent gathered around the table, enjoying a good meal and the company of family and friends. Family meant everything to her, and being together was always where she felt most at home. Though she had no children of her own, her many nieces and nephews held a very special place in her heart and were loved deeply by her.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Barbara’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Larry Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Gerald Neal Pelt, and her many beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
