January 2, 2026, 86, Goldsboro – Malcolm Uzzell, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Willow Creek Nursing Home. Malcolm was born in Wayne County on September 29, 1939, to the late Richard Uzzell and Alice Mae Hines Uzzell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sabena Ann Hinson Uzzell.
Malcolm retired from Cherry Hospital after many years of dedicated and faithful service. A proud patriot, he also honorably served his country in the United States Army.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Bennett (Keith) of Pikeville and Suzanne Rhodes (Timmy) of Newport; grandchildren, Ashley Weeks, Stephen Rhodes, Stephanie Myers, and Dr. Kateland Bennett; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Warner Weeks, and Ivy, Drayton, and Weston Myers; his sister, Jeanette Hyde (Robert); and his brother, David Uzzell (Peggy).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Shirley Cooksey for her devoted care and unwavering support to Malcolm during the past four years as his health declined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Malcolm’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
