GOLDSBORO, NC – As the holiday season and peak flu months continue, a sharp rise in flu and other respiratory illnesses has led to extremely high patient volumes in the Emergency Department, hospital officials announced.
To help manage capacity and ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and healthcare staff, the hospital has temporarily limited visitation in the Emergency Department to one visitor per patient. An exception will be made for patients age 18 and under.
In addition to Emergency Department limits, visitor restrictions are being maintained throughout the entire hospital. Temporary visitation limits are in place for children 12 and under. Hospital officials also emphasized that masks are required for teammates providing direct patient care and for everyone in the Emergency Department waiting room. Masking is strongly encouraged in all other areas of the hospital.
Hospital leaders thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as care teams continue working to meet the increased demand for services during this busy season. Officials say the measures are intended to protect the health and safety of everyone while ensuring the hospital can continue providing timely care to the community.
