Mary Jackson Eason Yelverton, 96, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 15, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family at her home. Known affectionately as “Mary Jack,” she lived a life rooted in faith, service, and an abiding love for children and family.
Mary Jack was born in Wilson County on June 7, 1929, to the late Alton Brooks Eason and Mary Colon Jackson Eason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, Stanley Eugene Yelverton, and her beloved sister, Ellen Bass.
A lifelong educator, Mary Jack dedicated 30 years of faithful service to Wayne County Public Schools. She taught at both Fremont School and Eureka School, where she touched countless young lives with patience, encouragement, and a genuine love for children. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as a proud member of the teaching sorority Alpha Delta Kappa.
Mary Jack’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful and active member of Eureka Methodist Church, where she shared her God-given musical talents for over 50 years as a choir member and served many years as Choir Director. Her love for music was evident in every note she sang and taught. In addition, she faithfully served the church as a Sunday School teacher and youth choir director and was deeply involved in numerous church ministries, always willing to serve wherever she was needed.
Above all else, Mary Jack cherished her family. She was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother who always wanted the very best for those she loved. To her family, she was simply the best “Mama” and “Grandma,” offering unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Eureka Methodist Church followed by a service to celebrate Mary Jack’s life at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the Eureka Cemetery.
