December 14, 2025, 87, Kenly – Bobby Franks Bass, 87, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at UNC Rex Healthcare. Born in Johnston County on June 22, 1938, he was the son of the late James Harvey Bass and Sadie Clara Sullivan Bass.
In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Lynn Bass Davis.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Helen Mae Davis Bass; and son, James Jerome Bass.
Bobby found deep joy in nature and was never happier than when he was outside, especially with a fishing rod in hand. Fishing was more than a hobby for Bobby—it was a passion that brought him peace and countless treasured memories.
One of Bobby’s proudest accomplishments was walking the Appalachian Trail, a testament to his determination, love of adventure, and appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation. Those who knew him admired his quiet strength, steady spirit, and the way he found contentment in life’s simple pleasures.
Bobby was an active member of the Smithfield Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where his faith guided his life and relationships. He was also a proud Army veteran who honorably served his country, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and patriotism.
A service to celebrate Bobby’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Tyler Carey presiding. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bobby will be laid to rest in the Kenly Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 in memory of Bobby.
