December 10, 2025, 76, Goldsboro – Betty Lois Cox Coley was born October 31, 1949, to the late Louis Cox Sr. and Zola Best Cox. She transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at UNC Health Wayne.
Betty was affectionately known by family and friends as Jane or Betlo which reflected the love and closeness she inspired. She graduated from Dillard High School in 1968 and went on to build a long and dedicated career with General Electric, retiring after 30 years of service. During her tenure, she was honored as a member of the T.O.M. Club, a distinction reserved for employees with more than twenty years of commitment.
She faithfully served as a devoted member of Christ Memorial Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Donnie McIntyre. She also frequently attended services at Word of Truth Christian Fellowship Church—formerly Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church led by Bishop Timothy Dortch.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Louis Cox Sr. and Zola Best Cox; brothers Melvin “Bobby” Cox, Louis “Pete” Cox Jr., Raymond “Dal” Cox, and a sister, Leora “Lee” Pettiway. She was the youngest of seven children and leaves to cherish her memory a devoted sister, Zelda “Annie” Cox Braswell and brother, Dallas “Goat” Cox. She also shared a special bond with her nephew, Robert E. Pettiway, along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom she lovingly helped raise.
Homegoing service will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
