April 2, 2026, 89, Greensboro – Miss Mary Stevenson Britt passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Friends Home at Guilford in Greensboro, where she had been residing and receiving care for the last several years. She was 89.
A native of Mount Olive, Miss Britt was the only child of her late parents, Archie Leon Britt and Clara Pickett Britt.
In 1974, she relocated from Mount Olive to Gainesville, Florida, where she was employed at the University of Florida. There, she worked as a professor and served as the director of the Medical Technology Program. She remained in that role until 1993, when the program was closed. During her tenure, she became known for her impeccable work ethic and gained many lifelong friendships with her colleagues. In later years, she served as the program director for Christian Education at Gainesville United Methodist Church, continuing in that position until her retirement.
Although she had been away from Mount Olive for many years, she returned as often as she was able to visit and maintain her parents’ home, a place she cherished until recent years. She was a lifelong parishioner of the United Methodist Church.
A service to remember the life of Miss Britt will be held Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery.
Miss Britt is survived by several cousins and their families, along with many dear friends, all of whom she loved very much.
