April 9, 2026, 71, Kinston – John Michael “Mike” Stout III, 71, passed peacefully from this life into life anew with his Lord early on Thursday, April 9, 2026 while surrounded by his family. Mike was born in Cumberland County to the late John Michael Stout and Ruby Love Brown Stout on June 23, 1954.
Known to many in the community as the owner and operator of Stout’s Jewelry Store, Mike was an honest and dependable jeweler for over fifty years. With deep expertise in his craft and genuine care for his customers, he often said, “If you don’t know your jewels, know your jeweler.” The trust so many placed in him was built on his knowledge, integrity, and a desire to prioritize customer happiness and satisfaction over profit.
Possessing a comedic nature, Mike found humor in all circumstances and exuded happiness and joy at all times. Living life to the fullest, his quick-wittedness, determination, caring heart, and love for life was contagious.
For many years, Mike’s daily routine included a four-mile walk through the neighborhood. After seeing a neighbor struggle to get her paper one morning, he began placing her paper on her porch during his walk. One paper became many, as he soon was the “paperboy” for the whole neighborhood, as Marcia joined him in both the walk and the ministry.
A lover of salt air, time at the beach was only made better with the presence of family. He also had a love for excitement and adventure, especially when it came to amusement parks, with Busch Gardens ranking at the top of his favorites. He delighted in the thrill of the rides and the shared joy of those experiences with family. Music was another constant in his life, as he was particularly devoted to the familiar tunes of classic rock. A devoted Atlanta Braves fan, Mike rarely missed the chance to cheer on his team, celebrating their victories and standing by them through every season.
An excellent gift giver, Mike was happiest when celebrating large. From holidays to birthdays, he loved every opportunity to provide gifts to his family and celebrate their bond. From big celebrations to regular Sunday afternoons by the pool, time with family was his greatest blessing. He loved his family fiercely, and his grandchildren perhaps held the greatest portion of his heart.
Holding a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, Mike’s faith grew deeper through health challenges over the past four years. Giving thanks and glory to God for every victory and trusting Him through every trial, Mike had his faith on display for all to see and truly became a leader in faith for his family.
A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 902 Church with Pastor Ryan Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marcia Stout; children, Justin Stout, Adam Stout and wife Nikki, Katie Stout Langston and husband Austin, Tyler Stout and wife Destiny; grandchildren, McKinley Blake, Aubrey Eisenman, Benjie Eisenman, Lucy Stout, Thomas Langston, James Langston, Addison Stout, and Margo Stout; brother, Rick Stoner and wife Sheri; sister, Lisa Taylor and husband Bill; and his beloved fur-friend, Duckie.
