GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after a Goldsboro man was found unresponsive Friday morning in the median of U.S. 70.
On April 3, 2026, at approximately 9:43 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department, Goldsboro Fire Department, and Wayne County EMS responded to reports of an unresponsive person in the median of the 800 block of U.S. 70. When emergency responders arrived, they located the victim and attempted to render aid.
The individual was later positively identified as Ernest Lee Martin, of Goldsboro. Mr. Martin succumbed to injuries believed to have been sustained in a traffic crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators believe Mr. Martin was struck by a vehicle during the evening or overnight hours between April 2 and April 3. Authorities say the driver involved failed to stop, render aid, or notify emergency services.
The Goldsboro Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in the incident. Officials say any information, no matter how small, could be helpful to the investigation.
