GOLDSBORO, N.C. — United Way of Wayne County is once again partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers to bring the 34th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to Wayne County on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The nationwide effort, led by local letter carriers, provides critical support to food pantries in Goldsboro and throughout Wayne County during a time when donations are often at their lowest. This year, organizers have set a community goal of collecting 12,000 pounds of non-perishable food to help restock shelves and ensure families continue to have access to essential items.
Residents in zip codes 27530, 27531, 27532, 27533, and 27534 will receive postcard reminders along with designated collection bags ahead of the event. On the day of the drive, community members are encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food items and place them by their mailbox. Letter carriers will then collect the donations during their regular mail delivery routes.
In addition to day-of donations, community members can drop off items in advance at collection bins located in the Berkeley Station Post Office and the William Street Post Office lobbies.
Organizers say the most-needed items include:
- Unexpired canned goods
- Canned foods with easy-open lids
- Boxed and bagged shelf-stable foods
Volunteers are also needed on May 9 to assist with sorting, loading, and unloading donations. Those interested in volunteering should be able to lift at least five pounds and have no mobility restrictions.

Officials say the annual drive is an easy and impactful way for residents to support neighbors facing food insecurity.
