WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — In recognition of National Ag Day, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has officially launched Wayne County Ag Week, a six-day celebration honoring one of the region’s most vital industries.
Running March 23–28, Wayne County Ag Week highlights the people, partnerships, and purpose that drive agriculture across Wayne County. Hosted by the Chamber and supported by its Agriculture Committee, the initiative aims to educate, inspire, and connect the community to the area’s rich farming heritage and ongoing innovation.
Throughout the week, residents are encouraged to participate in themed initiatives including “Thank a Farmer,” “Women in Ag,” the Ag Tour, “Fresh Picks” at the farmers market, and “Local Flavors.” Each feature spotlights the stories and dedication of local agricultural leaders while promoting awareness and appreciation for the industry.
Organizers say Ag Week is more than just a campaign—it’s a reminder of agriculture’s essential role in everyday life and the local economy.
Wayne County continues to stand out as a powerhouse in agricultural production. According to 2022 data, the county generated approximately $798.26 million in total market value of products sold, with 85% coming from livestock and poultry and 15% from crops. The county is home to 415 farms, averaging 361 acres each, and boasts more than 115,000 acres of cropland. It also ranks among the top agricultural counties in North Carolina, with significant production in broilers, hogs, and grains.
Community members are encouraged to follow along, engage with Ag Week activities, and celebrate the farmers and agricultural professionals who help sustain the region.
