March 20, 2026, 84, Goldsboro – Sherry Young Rickels, 84, went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.
Sherry was born in Fulton County, Georgia, on December 11, 1941, to the late Percy Calhoun Young and Bessie Lou Latham Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl David Rickels, and her daughter, Karen Ann Rickels Wallace.
A devoted woman of faith, Sherry was a member of Legacy Baptist Church in Mount Olive, NC. She dearly loved the Lord and found great joy in reading her Bible and Christian fiction. Sherry had a special love for children, especially babies, and faithfully served for many years in the church nursery, where she touched countless young lives with her kindness and gentle spirit.
Family was the center of Sherry’s life. After relocating to Fremont, NC to live with her son, she cherished every moment spent with him and his family, creating precious memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Sherry is survived by her son, William Russel Rickels and wife, Dana Reed Rickels, of Fremont, NC; her sister, Diane Young Burge of Stockbridge, GA; her brother, John David Young of Douglasville, GA; her grandchildren, Jerri Janelle Wiggans, Coleman Tanner Rickels, April Lucinda Wallace, Cynthia LeAnn Wallace, and Grace Wallace Casey; and eight great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Sherry’s life will be held in Dallas, GA, under the direction of Benson Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Highshoals Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Legacy Baptist Church, 122 NE Church Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
Sherry will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her gentle, caring heart that touched all who knew her.
