GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro Elks Lodge 139 hosted its annual St. Baldrick’s Cuts for Cures event on March 21, raising an impressive $41,000 to support childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
The family-friendly event encouraged participants to “brave the shave,” with volunteers shaving their heads in solidarity with children battling cancer. This year’s celebration featured live music from 581 South, along with vendors, food and drink concessions, a health fair, and activities for children.
A highlight of the day was honored child Wyatt Mitchell, a 7-year-old cancer survivor, who helped host the event. Wyatt also knighted participants who have volunteered for three or more years, recognizing their continued dedication to the cause.
Event organizers credited community support and sponsors for the event’s success. Sponsors included UNC Health Wayne, Tillman’s Restaurant Equipment and Supplies, and Adams Outdoor Advertising. Sponsorships ensured that every dollar raised will go directly toward research aimed at curing childhood cancers.
Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s event, scheduled for Saturday, March 20, and are encouraging participants to start growing their hair now in preparation.
