GOLDSBORO, NC — State and local leaders gathered in Wayne County on Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a major expansion at Prolec GE Waukesha Inc., marking a significant investment in both the regional economy and the nation’s energy infrastructure.
The expansion will dramatically increase production at the company’s Goldsboro facility, nearly doubling its capacity from 220 to 420 medium power transformers annually. The project is designed to help meet growing demand for reliable electrical infrastructure across North America.
Announced earlier this year by Josh Stein, the $140 million investment will also bring 330 new jobs to Wayne County over the next 2.5 years. Officials say the expansion reinforces eastern North Carolina’s role in supporting the country’s power grid.
Regional leaders emphasized the importance of the project to continued economic growth. The North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region highlighted the area’s skilled workforce, strong infrastructure, and collaborative partnerships as key factors in attracting and supporting major industry investments.
Founded in 1966, Prolec GE Waukesha has grown into a major player in the transformer industry. Company leaders say the latest expansion underscores their long-term commitment to Goldsboro and the strength of the local workforce that continues to drive their success.
