LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Mount Olive Trojans saw a hard-fought comeback effort slip away Tuesday night, as the Georgia College Bobcats rallied in the ninth inning to secure a dramatic 13–11 walk-off victory.
Despite falling behind early, Mount Olive showed resilience throughout the high-scoring contest. After trailing 5–1 through three innings, the Trojans erupted in the fourth inning, plating six runs to seize a 7–5 lead. Key contributions came from Tanner Ferguson and Lane McLean, while Rowan Watt delivered the biggest blow with a three-run home run.
Georgia College answered in the bottom half of the inning, but Mount Olive continued to apply pressure. In the sixth, Watt struck again with another three-run homer, extending the Trojans’ lead to 10–6. He later added a sacrifice fly in the seventh, finishing with an impressive seven RBIs on the night and helping push the advantage to 11–7.
However, the Bobcats refused to go away. They chipped into the lead with a run in the seventh before setting the stage for a dramatic final inning. In the ninth, Georgia College opened with back-to-back hits and cut the deficit to one with a two-run double.
With two outs and the Trojans on the verge of closing out the game, Carson Phillips delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run walk-off home run to complete the comeback and seal the 13–11 victory.
Mount Olive will look to bounce back later this week as they travel to face the Erskine Flying Fleet in a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m. in Due West, South Carolina.
