GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro High School Cougars girls basketball team is just one win away from bringing home a state championship.
On Thursday, students, staff and members of the community gathered to send the team off as they departed for the state finals, wishing the Cougars luck on their championship quest.
Goldsboro enters the title game with an impressive 27–2 overall record, boasting a .931 winning percentage. The Cougars were also dominant in conference play, finishing 14–0 to claim first place in the Swine Valley 2A/3A Conference.
The Cougars will face the East Surry Cardinals (25–3) for the NCHSAA 3A Girls Basketball State Championship on Friday, March 13 at noon at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Winston-Salem, NC.
This marks a historic moment for the program. Goldsboro is returning to the state championship game for just the third time in school history and the first time since 1982.
With the championship within reach, the Cougars will look to cap off their standout season with a victory and bring a state title back to Goldsboro.
