March 6, 2026, 73, Goldsboro – William “Bill” Hubert Barnes, 73, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro. Born in Wayne County on March 14, 1952, he was son to Doyce Gaines Barnes and Reba Wester Barnes.
Bill was a self-proclaimed “shade tree mechanic” who truly loved working with his hands. As an independent contractor, he had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything. He took great pride in his work and was known for being meticulous in everything he did.
Above all, Bill loved the Lord and lived his life with a strong and unwavering faith. He treasured the time he spent with his family and close friends, always making those around him feel valued and appreciated. For the past several years, Bill faithfully and lovingly cared for his mother, a reflection of his devoted and compassionate heart.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed football and baseball, fishing, and spending peaceful moments on the water. He also had a gift for storytelling and could captivate a room with his stories, often bringing laughter and joy to those gathered around him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Linda Unklesbay Barnes; his sons, Bill Barnes and wife, Lisa, and Bruce Barnes and wife, Tammy; his grandchildren, Ryan Barnes and wife, Kayla, Ashley Barnes Pate and husband, Jordan, W.M. Zachary Barnes and wife, Kayla, Ben Barnes and wife, Greysi, and Mary Barnes; eleven grandchildren; his brothers, Doyce Barnes, Jr. and wife, Sherll, and Kim Barnes and wife, Stacy; his sister, Debbie Barnes Webb and husband, Bert and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Barnes, Jr. and his grandsons, Brandon Cannon and Brice Lee Barnes.
A graveside service to honor Bill’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bennett-Barnes Cemetery in Kenly. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
