WAYNE COUNTY — The Wayne County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a $5,011,666 construction contract for an addition at Rosewood Elementary School, advancing plans to expand the campus and improve facilities for students.
During their March 3 meeting, commissioners awarded the contract to Daniels and Daniels Construction, the lowest bidder for the project. The total project cost includes roadway improvements and fencing as part of the construction plan, along with architectural services.
County officials said architect fees of approximately $327,866 are included in the overall price, representing about 7 percent of the project cost. The roadway portion of the project is estimated at $102,000, while fencing is expected to cost about $800.
The addition will be constructed on the side of the existing school building and is intended to address facility needs within the Rosewood school community.
In a related action, commissioners also approved a resolution authorizing installment financing to cover remaining costs tied to improvements at both Rosewood Elementary School and Rosewood Middle School.
County leaders previously authorized borrowing up to $9 million for the school projects. However, officials told the board the county will only draw the amount needed to close the funding gap, which is currently estimated at about $7.5 million.
The financing plan includes state grants and previously approved funding, reducing the total amount the county must borrow to complete the projects. The resolution also authorizes the execution of related financing documents, including an installment financing agreement and deed of trust, with the middle school property serving as collateral for the loan.
Officials said the action was the final step needed for the county to move forward with securing financing and beginning the construction phase of the Rosewood Elementary addition.
