February 21, 2026, 92, Goldsboro – Ernestine Sasser McKeel of Goldsboro is remembered with love and gratitude by family and friends. Ernestine passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Pinkney, North Carolina, on July 30, 1933, to Avery and Emma Sasser, she lived her entire life in Wayne County.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jarvis McKeel; her parents; her sister Nellie Sasser; and her brother R.A. Sasser. She is survived by her sons Jay (partner Judy Gretsch) and Dale (wife Julie); grandchildren Nathan (wife Elizabeth) and Colleen; great-granddaughter Charlotte; sister Mary Lee Fulghum; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ernestine loved her extended family and gave generously of her time to care for her parents, aunts, cousins, and friends. After retiring from Southern Bell Telephone Company, she and Jarvis enjoyed traveling and spending time visiting friends and family. She was thrilled to welcome her grandchildren into this world, spoiling them with favorite meals and making sweet memories over many years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 1 pm at First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery near Princeton at 10:30 am on March 2, 2026.
Ernestine’s immediate family will always be grateful to her sister Mary Lee, cousin Marcia Pleasants, niece Judy Goodman, and friend Elsie Hooks for the love and care they showed to Ernestine in her later years. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to Shirley Worrell for her many years of dedicated and devoted care, and to Debbie Sauls, Tammy Moore, Sandra Gray, and Tammy Radford as they lovingly supported Ernestine in her final years.
