WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A months-long narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of a Wayne County man on multiple trafficking charges, according to the Goldsboro/Wayne County Drug Task Force.
Authorities say the investigation began in September 2025 after complaints were received regarding alleged narcotics sales involving James Christopher Smith, 39. During the course of the investigation, narcotics agents determined Smith was allegedly a source of supply for crystal methamphetamine in Wayne County.
Investigators conducted multiple controlled purchases during the operation. As a result, warrants were secured charging Smith with three counts of trafficking methamphetamine.
On Feb. 18, 2026, the United States Marshals Service, with assistance from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, took Smith into custody. He was served with the outstanding Wayne County warrants and transported to the Wayne County Detention Center.
Smith is being held under a $200,000 secured bond.
