February 23, 2026, 94, Goldsboro – Elwood Dwight “Sam” Perry, 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Johnston County on September 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Jesse and Flora Godwin Perry.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Barrow Perry; his daughter, June Martin; and his son, Dale Perry. Mr. Sam was a simple man who enjoyed farming the land and was a faithful member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Howell and husband, Mark; his son, Dwight Perry and wife, Lavena; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Annette Sutton.
A graveside service to celebrate Sam’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Pikeville Cemetery, with his granddaughter, Kali Kasulis, and Rev. Mike Parks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Seymour Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the loving care provided to Sam in his final days.
