PEMBROKE, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive men’s basketball team competed from start to finish but fell 85–72 to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday night at the English E. Jones Center.
Mount Olive kept the game within reach throughout the first half, matching the Braves offensively and attacking the paint to stay close. The Trojans shot efficiently late in the opening period and trailed just 39–32 at halftime.
UNC Pembroke gained separation in the second half by capitalizing on transition opportunities and second-chance points, stretching the lead into double digits midway through the period. Despite the deficit, Mount Olive continued to battle, piecing together defensive stops and timely baskets to narrow the margin late in the contest.
Jaevian Alston led the Trojans with 16 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double performance. Raul Perez added 15 points on an efficient shooting night, while Redford Dunton contributed 12 points, including two three-pointers. Shane Peterson finished with 10 points, and Christian Ananaba and Jefferson McLamb each scored eight points off the bench.
Mount Olive shot 42.1 percent from the field and held a narrow 38–36 rebounding edge against one of the conference’s top teams as Conference Carolinas play continues.
The Trojans will return home Saturday to host King for Senior Night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
