WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — All schools will be closed to students on Thursday, February 5, due to concerns over wet roadways, freezing rain, and below-freezing overnight temperatures that could create slick and hazardous conditions for school buses during the morning commute.
School officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of students and staff as icy conditions are expected to develop overnight.
For school employees, Thursday will be an Optional Workday with a 2-hour delay. Any staff members who choose to report to work should arrive two hours later than their normal start time.
Families and staff are encouraged to continue monitoring official communication channels for any additional updates related to weather conditions and school operations.
