Wayne County, N.C. — Wayne County Government offices will be closed on Monday, February 2, 2026, due to dangerous travel conditions lingering after the weekend’s winter weather event.
Preliminary reports show snowfall totals ranging from 4 to 10 inches across the county. Although snowfall has ended, road conditions remain extremely hazardous. Nearly all roadways are snow-covered, and some roads—particularly in rural areas—are impassable. Officials strongly discourage travel at this time.
Bitterly cold temperatures are expected to continue for several days, with wind chills dropping into the single digits or below. County officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple layers if venturing outside, avoid unnecessary travel, ensure pets have warm shelter and access to unfrozen water, and check on elderly or medically vulnerable neighbors.
While the storm system has moved out of the area, impacts remain widespread. North Carolina Department of Transportation crews and partner agencies are actively working to clear roads, but officials caution that progress will take time across the county.
Wayne County Emergency Services continues to monitor conditions and coordinate with local and state partners to protect public safety. Updates will be shared through the Wayne County website and official social media channels as conditions evolve.
