Goldsboro, NC — Wayne Preparatory Academy (WPA) is setting itself apart in Wayne County as the only school where leadership development is intentionally woven into daily instruction alongside core academic subjects.
Built on Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, WPA’s mission centers on educating the whole child — academically, socially, and as a future leader. School leaders say the approach helps scholars build confidence, responsibility, and real-world skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Open enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year begins February 2 and continues through April 24. Families interested in enrolling students in grades K–12 may apply online at www.wpanc.net. Admission is determined by an enrollment lottery.
WPA offers a distinctive K–12 model, with all grade levels located on a single campus while housed in separate elementary, middle, and high school buildings. This structure allows families to remain connected throughout their children’s educational journey, while ensuring age-appropriate programs and experiences.
From engaging elementary clubs such as American Sign Language and Encore Society, which emphasizes the arts, to memorable senior trips and leadership opportunities, WPA provides programming designed to meet students at every stage of development.
The academy emphasizes small class sizes, individualized attention, and a close-knit school culture where students are known by name. WPA employs NCDPI-recognized teachers and offers two full gymnasiums, competitive athletics, and a robust Agricultural (Ag) program. Affordable before- and after-school care is also available for working families.
Wayne Preparatory Academy leaders describe the school as large enough to offer meaningful opportunities, yet small enough to feel like family. “Once you’re here, you’ll feel the difference,” said COO Rebecca Whittle.
