WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Wayne County as freezing rain continues to create hazardous travel conditions across the region.
Wayne County officials report a power line down along U.S. Highway 70 in the Rosewood area, resulting in multiple power outages. Progress Energy Carolinas reports three outages in Rosewood off Highway 70 and 83 outages off Church of God Road. Tri-County Electric reports no outages in Wayne County at this time.
The National Weather Service says ice accumulations between one-tenth and one-quarter inch are possible, with the advisory remaining in effect until 1 p.m. Monday. Ice buildup on trees and power lines could lead to additional outages and minor tree damage.
Travel remains dangerous through the morning and into the afternoon, especially on bridges and overpasses. Officials are encouraging residents to stay off roadways unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing later Monday afternoon and evening, which should allow ice to melt and lead to gradually improving travel conditions.
Emergency officials continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as needed.
