WASHINGTON, D.C. — High school students across North Carolina’s First Congressional District are invited to showcase their creativity as Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) officially opens the 2026 Congressional Art Competition.
Sponsored annually by the Congressional Institute, the nationwide competition highlights the artistic talents of high school students while providing young artists the opportunity to have their work displayed on a national stage.
Congressman Davis emphasized the importance of celebrating student creativity throughout Eastern North Carolina. He noted that the region is filled with imagination and promise, and the competition offers students a platform to share powerful stories through their art.
Online submissions for the competition are due by Friday, April 3, 2026, at 5 p.m., and all students must complete registration by the deadline. Submitted artwork must not exceed 26 inches by 26 inches, may be no more than 4 inches deep when framed, and must weigh 15 pounds or less.
Eligible entries include two-dimensional artwork such as paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media pieces, computer-generated art, and photography. All submissions must be original in concept, design, and execution and must comply with U.S. copyright laws. Artwork copied from another source or submitted as a reproduction or scan will not be accepted.
The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside artwork from students across the nation. In addition, two runner-up entries will be exhibited in Congressman Davis’ district office.
Students and educators seeking more information or full contest guidelines can visit Congressman Davis’ website or contact his office directly.
