MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive women’s basketball team turned in a dominant wire-to-wire performance Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Erskine 104–57 in a convincing Conference Carolinas victory inside Kornegay Arena.
The 104-point outburst ties for the third-most points in a single game in program history and marks the first time the Trojans have reached that milestone since a 104-point performance against Lees-McRae on Feb. 27, 2006.
Mount Olive set the pace from the opening tip, combining aggressive defense with an up-tempo transition attack to seize control early. The Trojans led 22–13 after the first quarter and blew the game open in the second, outscoring the Flying Fleet 28–10 to take a commanding 50–23 lead into halftime.
Offensively, Mount Olive was nearly unstoppable, shooting 56.8 percent from the field while scoring 47 fast-break points and 76 points in the paint. The Trojans also capitalized on Erskine mistakes, forcing 28 turnovers and converting them into 38 points.
Aniyah Vanhook led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting while adding six rebounds. Jerin Truesdale posted a strong double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kayla Jackson contributed 16 points. Jada Priebe finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Mount Olive’s depth was on full display, as the Trojans received 44 points from the bench. Chloe Kester led the reserves with 12 points, while Kayana Cloud added eight points and four assists.
The Trojans maintained their pressure in the second half, pouring in 30 points in the third quarter to extend the lead to 80–36 before cruising through the final period. All 10 Mount Olive players who saw action scored in the win, highlighting the team’s balanced effort.
With the victory, Mount Olive improved to 5–8 overall and 2–5 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trojans return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to face Lees-McRae at 2 p.m.
