January 5, 2026, 64, Goldsboro – Joseph Lynn Hill, known by most as Joe, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at Wayne UNC Healthcare.
Joe had been a long time resident of the Spring Bank area of Goldsboro, prior to relocating to Helping Hands Assisted Living Center about 18 months ago.
Joe was a member of the 1981 graduating class of Eastern Wayne High School. Joe was an avid fan of wrestling, and he loved him some Duke basketball. He was a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. racing fan, and a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed old movies and westerns on television. Chocolate ice cream was his favorite, and he was faithful in reading the local newspaper from cover to cover. He was known to take walks several times a day around his neighborhood, often ending up at the convenience store nearby. Joe loved him some orange juice, and he looked forward to that nab and soft drink from the local store. He was a simple man who loved his family, and they loved him too. In earlier years he attended and was a member of the St. John Free Will Baptist Church, and more recently he worshipped with family at Calvary Baptist in Goldsboro.
Joe is survived by two of his brothers and their wives, Laney Carl “L.C.” and Joanie Hill, and Michael Wayne and Sally Hill, all of the Spring Bank area, Goldsboro; along with several nieces and nephews.
In death, he has been reunited with his mother, Charlotte Whitfield Sykes; his step-father, Jack Sykes; his father, Elton Ray Hill; two of his brothers, David Ray Hill and Danny Herbert Hill; and a nephew, Christopher Hill.
The Hill family and their friends and relatives will gather at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Saturday, January 10, for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., and then for funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Rudolph West. He will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park.
His family gives special thanks to the staff of Helping Hands who made him feel special in providing him a home away from home, especially to these caregivers who gave him extra care and attention, Erica, Savanna, Amy, and Jikari.
