WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A Pikeville man has been charged with felony intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury following an investigation into injuries sustained by an infant in early November.
According to investigators, on Nov. 4, 2025, a 53-day-old infant was brought to Wayne UNC Hospital with injuries initially reported to have occurred after the child rolled off a bed and onto the floor. Due to the severity of the injuries, the infant was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Medical staff determined the infant suffered small bifrontal cortical hemorrhagic contusions and facial trauma. The Wayne County Department of Social Services and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were notified, prompting a joint investigation.
During the course of the investigation, authorities conducted multiple interviews. Investigators said the identified suspect admitted that while changing the infant’s diaper, the child began moving and crying. The suspect stated he struck the side of the infant’s head, causing the child to fall to the floor and sustain the injuries.
As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Hunter Isiah Davis, 21, of Pikeville, has been charged with one count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. He was issued a $150,000 secured bond and is currently being held at the Wayne County Detention Center.
