EMORY, Va. — A cold shooting afternoon and a powerful second-half surge from Emory & Henry proved too much for the University of Mount Olive women’s basketball team on Wednesday, as the Trojans dropped a 92–55 non-conference decision at the King Center.
Mount Olive kept things close early, trailing by only six after the opening quarter and continuing to find good scoring opportunities in the first half. But the Wasps took control after the break, exploding for 32 points in the third quarter to pull away for good.
UMO finished the day shooting 29.7% from the floor and 26.3% from beyond the arc, while Emory & Henry knocked down 54.7% of its attempts.
Jada Priebe led the Trojans with 13 points and four rebounds. Savannah McAfee and Jerin Truesdale each scored 10 points, with McAfee adding a team-high six rebounds and Truesdale grabbing five. Kayla Jackson chipped in six points, all from long range, and Destiny Thompson and Chloe Kester contributed five points apiece off the bench.
Emory & Henry saw a dominant performance from Breanna Yarber, who poured in 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting to pace a balanced offensive attack.
Mount Olive looks to bounce back at home this weekend as the Trojans return to Kornegay Arena for a Conference Carolinas matchup with Ferrum. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
