Charlotte Skeens Charles, age 75, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Born in Leslie County, Kentucky, Charlotte was the beloved daughter of the late Ellis Dehart and Sylvia Skeens Dehart.

Charlotte dedicated her life to her community and to education. She spent her career as a devoted educator, working with children with special needs, with Goldsboro City Schools and Wayne County Public Schools, teaching at various schools including North Drive School, Spring Creek Elementary, Carver Heights and School Street School. She was a deeply respected teacher and educator who left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues. A proud professional, she was a member of the National Educators Association.

Charlotte was a woman of strong Christian faith and attend church regularly as long as her health allowed. She also supported causes close to her heart as a member of the 700 Club. Her love for animals was well known, and she cherished the company of her pets throughout her life.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harril Richard Charles, who passed away on May 27, 2025. They were married on October 18, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Faron Dehart and Jamie Dehart.

She is survived by her sister, Carla Hoskins and her husband, Russell. Charlotte also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Jeff Charles and wife, Gale.

Charlotte was blessed with a very special extended family who provided compassionate care and support for her health and well-being: Jamie Byrd and his wife, Leah, Chad Daughtry, and Debbie Whaley and her husband, Charles. She is also survived by several cherished nieces, nephews, along with her grandnieces and special friends, and a community who will honor her memory.

Honoring her request, the family will celebrate Charlotte’s life privately and asks that you honor her memory by cherishing the love and dedication she shared with her family and her students.
