James Daniel Hines, better known as J. D. Hines, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, at his home at Dudley.
Mr. Hines, 83, had been a truck driver for most of his working career. While most of his life was spent around the Dudley area, he had lived in the Scott’s Store community of Duplin for several years, relocating back to Dudley a few years ago.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Ellen Davis Kearney Hines; a daughter, Melissa Shannon Hines Daughtry of Goldsboro; a son and daughter-in-law, James Daniel “Jamey” Hines II and Tracy Hines of Dudley; a brother, Alvis Earl Hines of Wallace; step-children, Tim Kearney of Goldsboro, Eddie Kearney and wife, Lorrie, of Goldsboro, Becky Owens and husband, Cliff, of Chadbourn, Mike Rivenbark and wife, Barbara, of Seven Springs, and Larry Rogers of Texas, whose wife, Melody Rivenbark Rogers, was a step-daughter; grandchildren, Victoria Bedwell, Michele Mathis and husband, Daniel, Danyel Bovard and husband, Orion, Kelli Chandler and husband, Tyler, Craig Daughtry and wife, Brittany, and Megan Teer and husband, Ross; great-grandchildren, Maverick Bedwell, Alicen Brown, Olivia Jackson, Adelaide Bovard, Parker Chandler, Peyton Chandler, Nathan Daughtry, Caroline Daughtry, Allisyn Teer, and Beulah Teer. Also surviving is another daughter, Trudy Stevens and her two sons.
Mr. Hines was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Allen Hines and Lola Anderson Hines; wife, Carolyn Bell Herring Hines; and a brother, Eugene HInes.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 30, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with visitation immediately afterwards. Committal rites with entombment will be Friday, October 31, at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at Pink Hill.
