New Holiday Event Combines Local Agriculture with Festive Celebration

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – A new holiday tradition is coming to Wayne County this season. The Farm Credit Farmers Market will host its inaugural “Christmas at the Farm” event from November 8 through December 13 at the Maxwell Regional Agricultural & Convention Center.

The celebration, presented by Wayne County Cooperative Extension and sponsored by the Wayne County Extension and Community Association, offers families a free holiday experience centered around local agriculture and community tradition.

Event Details and Location

The festivities will take place at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro. Visitors will experience a self-guided tour that begins at the entrance from Wayne Memorial Drive, adjacent to Wayne Community College, and exits onto New Hope Road. Organizers encourage attendees to share their experience on social media.

Featured Activities

The event includes several family-friendly attractions throughout its run:

Saturday Story Time will be held every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with the exception of November 29. The readings provide a festive atmosphere for children and families.

Complimentary cookies and hot cocoa will be available to all visitors during their tour of the facility.

A special Santa’s Mailbox station allows children to write and send letters to Santa Claus.

Local vendors will showcase their products, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase farm-fresh foods and handmade artisan crafts for holiday gift-giving.

Interactive Light Display Features Agricultural Education

One of the event’s signature attractions is an innovative Christmas light display that merges holiday entertainment with agricultural education. The installation features QR codes linked to individual light displays. When scanned, each code plays a short video about agricultural practices and Christmas traditions.

While the vendor market and scheduled programming conclude on December 13, the light display will continue operating nightly through December 29. The lights will be illuminated from sundown until 11:00 p.m., allowing the community extended access to the attraction.

Building Community Through Agriculture

The event represents a new chapter for holiday celebrations in Wayne County, emphasizing the connection between local agriculture and seasonal traditions. By combining educational components with festive activities, “Christmas at the Farm” aims to create a distinctive experience that honors the region’s agricultural heritage.

Community members interested in attending can plan their visits any day during the event period, with special programming concentrated on Saturdays. All activities are free and open to the public.
