WCPS Names Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne County Public Schools has appointed Lisa Tart, the district’s Director of Teaching & Learning, as Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, Superintendent Marc Whichard announced this week.

Tart will replace Dr. Carol Artis, who has resigned and is retiring from the position. The appointment took effect October 15.

A veteran educator with more than 30 years of experience, Tart brings extensive expertise from the classroom, principal’s office, and central administration to her new role overseeing the district’s educational programming.

“Mrs. Tart has a strong background in curriculum and instruction and is highly equipped to oversee the district’s educational programming during this period of transition,” Whichard said. “The Curriculum and Instruction Department has a vital role in supporting our schools, the education mission of our district, and the efforts underway to improve student achievement.”

Whichard emphasized that Tart’s experience will prove invaluable as her team continues critical work around teaching and learning during the transition period.

Tart holds certifications in middle grades social studies and language arts, as well as credentials as a Curriculum Instructional Specialist and School Administrator. Her distinguished career includes recognition as WCPS Principal of the Year, Southeastern Regional Principal of the Year, and National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principal.

The district plans to begin advertising the permanent position opening this week.
