Goldsboro Nonprofit Sends Wayne County Captain to Walt Disney World
GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Wayne County firefighter and his family recently experienced the vacation of a lifetime, thanks to a Goldsboro-based nonprofit dedicated to honoring first responders.
Rewarding Responders, a local organization committed to recognizing the sacrifices made by first responders, held its annual First Responder Family Vacation trip to Walt Disney World this fall. This year’s honored recipient was Captain Brian Boom, a dedicated firefighter with Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Department in Wayne County.
Community Recognition
Captain Boom was nominated to receive the all-expenses-paid trip by many of his peers and community members who recognized his outstanding service, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the community he serves.
“Our mission is very simple — to give back to those who give so much of themselves,” said Mallory Dumond, President and Founder of Rewarding Responders. “This trip is our way of saying thank you for the selflessness and compassion that first responders show every day.”
A Worry-Free Experience
Each year, Rewarding Responders carefully selects a deserving first responder family to enjoy a completely paid dream vacation, providing them with an opportunity to rest, reconnect, and create lifelong memories together. Every detail is covered, from park tickets and accommodations to dining and travel, allowing families to experience the magic of Disney without any financial worry or expense.
Growing Mission
The organization, which is supported by community donations and partnerships, continues to expand its outreach. Future plans include growing the annual trips to serve more first responder families nationwide.
The timing of this year’s trip comes just ahead of National First Responders Day, which will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28.
About Rewarding Responders
Rewarding Responders was founded after a law enforcement officer from the Goldsboro community was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind a grieving family. The tragedy inspired the organization’s mission to ensure first responders and their immediate families have opportunities to relax, recharge, reconnect, and make core, unforgettable memories through all-expenses-paid vacations.
