WCC’s Guzmán Appointed to Governor’s Advisory Council on Latino Affairs

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Esteban Guzmán, director of Wayne Community College’s Small Business Center, has been appointed by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein to serve on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Latino Affairs, joining 29 other members for a two-year term.

The council members will meet quarterly to explore topics affecting North Carolina’s Hispanic and Latino population, with a mandate to advance community contributions, expand opportunities, reduce barriers, and provide policy recommendations directly to the governor.

“North Carolina’s Latino population enriches our shared heritage and makes our state a more dynamic place to live,” Stein said in a press release. “That’s why I was proud to sign an Executive Order extending the Governor’s Advisory Council on Latino Affairs. This council has provided valuable wisdom to my team and me, and we want to continue benefiting from its insights.”

Guzmán and fellow advisors were officially installed during a reception at the governor’s mansion. The council represents key agencies and organizations working with the state’s Latino population throughout North Carolina.

“Serving on Governor Josh Stein’s Council for Latino Affairs is not just an opportunity—it’s a responsibility to amplify voices, shape policy, and ensure that the Hispanic community is not only represented but truly heard,” Guzmán said.

Beyond his role at WCC and his recent appointment to the governor’s advisory council, Guzmán serves on several local and state boards and committees, bringing extensive community engagement experience to his new position.

The council’s work will focus on strengthening the contributions of North Carolina’s growing Latino community while addressing challenges and creating pathways for greater inclusion across the state.
