WILSON, N.C. — Wesley Shelter Inc., in partnership with the Wilson Building Office and the Wilson Police Department, will host the Purple with Purpose 5K and Block Party on October 4, 2025, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The event will take place at 1901 Branch St NW, Wilson, NC 27893, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to run or walk with purpose to support survivors of domestic violence in the local community.
Wesley Shelter Inc., a United Way of Central Carolinas partner organization, emphasizes that this event brings the community together to raise awareness and show solidarity with survivors. Whether participants choose to run in person or virtually, every step taken helps break the silence surrounding domestic violence.
The 5K offers multiple participation options to accommodate community members of all ages and abilities. Individual runners and walkers can register for $20 for either in-person or virtual participation. Youth 16 and under can register free of charge, making the event accessible to families throughout Wilson County.
Team registration options are also available, designed to encourage workplace and community groups to participate together. The “Clothed in Care” category accommodates teams of 2-4 participants for $100, while the “Champions for Change” option is available for teams of 5-10 members at $250. Larger organizations can register under the “Safe & Secure” category for teams of 10 or more participants at $500.
Local businesses and community organizations interested in participating can reserve a community booth for $25, providing an opportunity to connect with attendees and share resources related to domestic violence prevention and support services.
October is recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising public awareness about domestic violence and honoring survivors. The Purple with Purpose 5K continues the tradition of wearing purple to show support for those affected by domestic violence.
