Goldsboro Opens Applications for 2026 Citizens’ Academy

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Residents interested in learning how their local government operates have until the end of October to apply for the City of Goldsboro’s 2026 Citizens’ Academy.

The city is now accepting applications for the educational program, which will run from Jan. 8 through Feb. 26, 2026. The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 31.

Designed to foster civic engagement, the Citizens’ Academy provides residents with an inside look at municipal operations and serves as a foundation for those considering future roles in local government.

The comprehensive seven-week course features presentations from each city department, giving participants a well-rounded understanding of how Goldsboro’s government functions. Weekly sessions will be held Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., concluding with a graduation ceremony.

The Citizens’ Academy was established to create opportunities for residents to actively participate in and understand the workings of city government, strengthening the connection between municipal leadership and the community it serves.

Applications are available online at https://www.goldsboronc.gov/public-affairs-department/2026-citizens-academy-application/ or in person at City Hall, located at 200 N. Center St. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by the Oct. 31 deadline.
