September 21, 2025, 75, Goldsboro —
Donald Shirrell Jackson, 75, was welcomed into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Shirrell was born in Wayne County on October 27, 1949, to the late Walter Woodley Jackson and Alice Bass Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jamie Capps, and his brother, Woodley Jackson.
Shirrell devoted his life to serving the Lord and his family. He worked for many years as a jeweler, known for his skill and dedication. A faithful member of New Hope Friends Church, he shared his gifts through the choir and by playing the bass guitar for many years. His love for music was matched by his talent for drawing and painting, which brought beauty and joy to those around him.
While Shirrell found fulfillment in his work, music, and art, his greatest joy came from time spent with his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Papa who cherished every moment with his family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center at New Hope Friends Church followed by a service to celebrate Shirrell’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment will be in New Hope Friends Cemetery.
Shirrell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Daniels Jackson; daughter, Trisha Jackson Capps; grandchildren, Matt Jackson and wife, Paige, and Noah Capps; great-grandchildren, Presley Jackson and Marley Jackson; and sisters, Janice Carter, Carol Brumberg, and Alice Whitley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda D. Sutton; brother-in-law, Delbert Daniels; and several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care and support that allowed Shirrell to spend his final months at home. May God richly bless each of you for your kindness.
