Leona Gray Witherington Davis, age 93, passed away Monday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born Duplin County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Cicero Edward and Vera Mae Anderson Witherington. Leona attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retired sales associate with Daughtry Jewelers.

A service to celebrate Leona’s life will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at the funeral home.

Leona is survived by her husband of 75 years, William B. Davis, Jr; her children, William Edward Davis (Marilou) and Brenda Melvin; grandchildren, Bryan Davis, Chris Melvin and Matthew Davis (Faron); great grandchildren, Owen Davis, Emma Davis and Mackenzie Davis; numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her grandson, Nick Melvin; son-in-law, Dale Melvin; three brothers and seven sisters.
