WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors have extended the closure of U.S. 52 northbound ramps at Hanes Mill Road through September 19, as part of an ongoing highway widening project.
The northbound on and off ramps at Hanes Mill Road, originally scheduled to reopen September 17, are now expected to resume normal operations by 5 p.m. on September 19, weather permitting. The ramps have been closed since August 18 at 7 a.m.
The month-long closure is necessary to complete critical construction tie-ins for new ramp and loop alignments as part of the U.S. 52 widening project. The work represents a significant phase in the infrastructure improvement initiative designed to enhance traffic flow in the Winston-Salem area.
Detour Information
NCDOT has implemented signed detour routes to guide motorists around the closure. The detours affect:
- The on-ramp from Hanes Mill Road to U.S. 52 Northbound
- The off-ramp from U.S. 52 Northbound to Hanes Mill Road
Transportation officials are urging drivers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time when navigating the area. Motorists should follow posted signage and remain alert for construction vehicles and crews working in the vicinity.
