Gordon Bradshaw Best

September 13, 2025, 87, Goldsboro —

Gordon Bradshaw Best was the first son born to the late Bryant Best Jr. and Annie Louetta Forte Best, November 16, 1938.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Galloway and brothers-in-law William Hunter and Bennie Smith Jr.

Gordon attended Wayne County Public Schools. After graduating from Pikeville Training School as Valedictorian in 1956, he joined the United States Navy and was able to spend time at sea while also visiting other states and countries.

After an honorable discharge from the US Navy, Gordon returned to Goldsboro where he later met Sarah Elizabeth Smith. In December of 1961, Gordon and Sarah married and moved to Washington, DC where he followed his dream to become a truck driver. For 38 years he was a dedicated and decorated driver.

Gordon loved to drive and Sarah loved riding. So, the two together, along with family and friends, traveled throughout the United States and Canada, as well as several cruises abroad. With a map and plenty of Gospel music, they traveled to many very interesting areas they never thought they would see.

Gordon was a member of Faith Temple Original FWB Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

After returning to Goldsboro, NC, Gordon and Sarah soon joined Best Grove MB Church and Gordon became a member of the Laymen’s League.

In the later years of retirement, he enjoyed family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and reunions and also enjoyed sitting in his favorite chair on the back porch enjoying the view and watching TV. He was a devoted and diligent caretaker for the love of his life, Sarah.

Gordon leaves to cherish many fond memories with his wife, Sarah; son, Aaron DuBois Best (Tracia); sisters, Ruby O. Hunter and Mabel R. (Ronnie) Davis; brothers, Garland (Sandra) Best and Jerry R. Best, all of Maryland; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Doris Allen, Edna L. Smith, Brenda Smith, and Hilda P Smith; brothers-in-law, Alton E. Smith, Bill Galloway, and Joseph M.
