GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its 2025-2026 Junior Leadership Program, a career exploration initiative that has served more than 500 students over its 26-year history.

The program, originally conceived by the Leadership Wayne Class of 1998-1999, was designed to expose high school juniors to diverse career opportunities within Wayne County. Since its inception, the initiative has expanded to incorporate comprehensive team-building activities and leadership development components.

Program Structure and Activities

The Junior Leadership Program features a Discovery Day kick-off event followed by seven program days distributed throughout the academic year. Each session focuses on a specific sector of Wayne County’s economy and community, including local government, industry, healthcare, historical preservation, education, military operations, arts and leisure, community service, and agribusiness.

Participants will engage in hands-on experiences and receive exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of local organizations and businesses. The program is specifically designed to introduce students to career paths they may not have previously considered.

Application Information

High school juniors interested in participating can obtain applications through their respective high schools, directly from the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce office, or online through the Chamber’s website.

The application deadline is Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
