Wake County Historical Society to Host Discussion on New NC National Guard Museum

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Historical Society will present a special educational program on Monday, September 15, examining the ongoing development of North Carolina’s first dedicated National Guard museum.

The event, titled “Service, Sacrifice, and Heritage: Creating the NC National Guard Museum,” will feature Staff Sergeant Gary C. Spencer discussing the ambitious project to transform a former state office building on Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh into an interactive museum celebrating the North Carolina National Guard’s storied history.

The presentation will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Mordecai Historic Park Visitors Center Classroom, located at 1101 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.

According to event organizers, the museum project represents a significant effort to preserve and showcase the development of the National Guard in North Carolina through interactive exhibits and historical displays. The renovation work is currently underway to retrofit the Blue Ridge Road facility specifically for museum purposes.

The Wake County Historical Society has structured the event as both an educational opportunity and fundraiser, with tiered pricing based on membership status:

  • Members: $5 (includes processing fee)
  • Non-members: $10 (includes processing fee)
  • Premium members ($100+ level): Free admission

All ticket sales conclude on September 15.

The program falls under the organization’s charity and education initiatives, aimed at promoting awareness of local military history and heritage preservation efforts.
