GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The USO North Carolina will bring high-speed gaming action to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base this Saturday evening with a free Mario Kart tournament designed to provide entertainment and friendly competition for military personnel.
The gaming event, scheduled for September 6 from 10 p.m. to midnight, will take place at the USO NC Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Center located at 1240 Andrews Street in Goldsboro. Service members will compete head-to-head on big-screen displays, racing for prizes and bragging rights in the beloved Nintendo racing franchise.
“Rev up your engines, Airmen—it’s time to race for glory!” organizers announced, emphasizing that the tournament welcomes participants of all skill levels, from seasoned racing game veterans to casual players who simply enjoy the game’s signature power-ups and chaotic fun.
The tournament represents part of the USO’s broader gaming initiative, which aims to provide modern recreational opportunities for service members during their downtime. The organization’s gaming program has gained significant traction, offering everything from competitive tournaments to casual gaming sessions at military installations worldwide.
Participants can expect “high-speed fun, friendly competition, and awesome prizes for the top racers,” according to event organizers. The tournament format will allow multiple players to compete simultaneously, creating an energetic atmosphere of camaraderie and competition.
The USO Gaming program operates with support from several major corporate partners, including Boeing, Comcast Military, MCX, Salute to Service, USAA, and Xbox. These partnerships help ensure the organization can provide cutting-edge gaming equipment and prizes for participants.
Service members interested in following USO Gaming activities can connect through multiple platforms, including Twitter @USOGG, Discord at discord.gg/theuso, and Twitch at twitch.tv/theuso. Additional information about USO Gaming initiatives is available at uso.org/gaming.
The event is free to attend and open to all eligible service members at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. No advance registration information was specified, suggesting participants can join on a walk-in basis Saturday evening.
