City Awards Contract for Major Galvanized Line Replacement Project
GOLDSBORO, NC— The City of Goldsboro has awarded a nearly $6 million contract to T.A. Loving Company for a comprehensive water infrastructure improvement project designed to replace aging galvanized water lines throughout the city.
Project Scope and Timeline
The 2-Inch Galvanized Water Project will span 71 blocks within city limits, focusing on abandoning existing deteriorating galvanized water lines and installing new service lines with all associated components. Construction is expected to begin in either October or December, with completion required within a 365-day contract period.
The $5,999,395 project represents one of the city’s most significant infrastructure investments in recent years, targeting what officials describe as a critical maintenance challenge.
Addressing Critical Infrastructure Needs
“This project addresses one of the largest maintenance issues in our water system,” said Jonathan Perry, Engineering Services Manager. “Aging galvanized lines are prone to corrosion, frequent breaks, and reduced capacity. Replacing them will improve water quality, reduce service disruptions, and prevent unnecessary street cuts.”
The initiative aims to modernize Goldsboro’s water delivery system by eliminating infrastructure vulnerable to corrosion and capacity reduction, which can lead to service interruptions and water quality concerns for residents.
Federal Funding Supports Local Infrastructure
The project will be funded entirely through an American Rescue Plan grant. The federal initiative, passed in 2021 as part of pandemic recovery efforts, allocated critical funding for infrastructure projects nationwide.
“The city is fortunate to have these funds to address basic critical infrastructure that will ensure safer quality drinking water for all,” said City Manager Matt Livingston. “We are committed to making sure taxpayer dollars are wisely overseen and applied for the benefit of all water consumers and customers as part of a greater effort in maintaining and enhancing our overall drinking water system.”
Long-term Benefits for Residents
Once completed, the water line replacement project is expected to deliver multiple benefits to Goldsboro residents, including improved water quality, reduced service disruptions, and decreased need for emergency street repairs due to line breaks. The infrastructure improvements represent a proactive approach to municipal water system maintenance, addressing potential problems before they impact daily service.
