Martha Batten Boswell Pittman, 99, passed away on August 14, 2025. She was born in Johnston County on November 14, 1925.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Naomi Davis Batten; stepmother, Nedies Batten; husbands, William Cecil Boswell, and Burgess Pittman; siblings, Doris Horne, Jessie Lee Atkinson, Ralph Batten, A.B. Batten and Clifton Batten; children, Wanda Boswell Smith, W.J. Boswell, Dwight Boswell, and Roy Boswell; and daughters-in-law, Janice Boswell and Linda Boswell.
Martha is survived by her children, Ronnie Boswell, Ruby Boswell, and Tim Boswell (Nan); siblings, Jean Narron, Judy Raper, C.D. Batten and J.P. Batten; daughters-in-law, Lou Boswell, and Rose Boswell; son-in-law, Johnnie Smith; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Smithfield Manor for all the care, love, and support. She loved each one of you.
The family will gather on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service for a time of visitation. A graveside service will follow at Kenly Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.
